WONDERBOOM IS A BIG LITTLE SPEAKER
Getting an earful of sound in the great Aussie Outdoors is as close as your nearest WONDERBOOM, stockist. The latest model to boost the Ultimate Ears range of compact, wireless speakers, WONDERBOOM is also waterproof.
And you can forget having to serve up your fave outdoor tracks with a drab portable speaker. This little dynamo is available in six vibrant colours such as, I kid you not, Stone (Grey), Phantom (Black), Fireball (Red), SubZero (Blue), Cashmere (Pink) and Lilac.
Colour names that make you think the Ultimate Ears marketing team must have imbibed more than a tipple of the God’s nectar as they came up with tags for the WONDERBOOM’s various finishes.
Personally I can see myself with my back against a large gum-tree, by the side of the Murray River, a can in my hand and enjoying Van the Man via a WONDERBOOM with Fireball finish.
You’ve got to admit Cashmere or Lilac just wouldn’t augment a bloke’s worn shorts, thongs and tatty Tee shirt.
In a case of different stokes for different blokes or gals, and colour choices aside, clearly WONDERBOOM is simple to use. What could test the average intelligence less than a portable wireless speaker that springs into life by a press of the power button, pairing with your smartphone and then pressing “Play”.
There’s also a UE button on the top of the WONDERBOOM that allows you to pause, skip or double up with two WONDERBOOM speakers. Ultimate Ears is eager to point out that though the WONDERBOOM portable speaker may be compact, it delivers a big, big sound.
Don’t be fooled by its size or price. "This little beauty is also a beast," says Charlotte Johs, Ultimate Ear’s General Manager.
WONDERBOOM is a pint-sized, super-portable Bluetooth speaker with surprisingly big sound. And, just like the rest of the Ultimate Ears family, it’s also virtually indestructible.
How indestructible? Well, Ultimate ears tells us the new portable sound blaster is drop-proof from up to five feet. You’ll also get 360-degree sound, a 10-hour battery life and a Bluetooth range of about 100-feet. And its waterproof and said to survive a dunking in water up to a metre deep for up to 30-minutes. And yes, it floats.
But it also attaches to any bag, bike or backpack via a hanging loop. The price for this wee bundle of features is $129.
WONDERBOOM is available from JB Hi-FI and Harvey Norman as well as Apple Stores from April.
One of the veterans of the Australian HiFi industry, if there's a speaker he's likely heard it or owned it at some point in his career. Peter was formerly the audio-video editor of the Herald Sun for over two decades.
